Developer Auroch Digital enlisted composer Mick Gordon to create a “big and bombastic” soundtrack for the climactic boss fight in Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2. Gordon, known for his work on Doom, sought to provide a unique musical voice for the sequel’s final encounter, which features a scale not present in the first game.
To ensure the music matches the gameplay's natural pace, Gordon analyzes capture footage provided by the developer's QA team. He uses a metronome to determine specific beats per minute for different segments, aiming to avoid tempos that feel too slow, which he notes can make a game feel sluggish to players, or too fast, which can become annoying.
IGN awarded the game an 8 out of 10, describing it as “an explosive sequel that packs a bloody punch.” The publication's review highlights the title's success as a retro-styled first-person shooter, though the specific assessment details remain limited to this positive summary.
Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2 is currently available on PlayStation 5, PC, and Xbox Series X|S. A version for the Nintendo Switch 2 is scheduled for release at a later date.
