Riot Games announced that League of Legends Classic, a mode allowing players to experience the game as it existed in 2013, will conclude its current service in January 2027. Launched on July 30, the mode offered a modernized take on Season 3 gameplay, removing the need to purchase runes while retaining the historical feel of the title.

The mode featured updated systems alongside classic elements, with ongoing support planned until its closure. Patch 26.21 is set to introduce champions including Mordekaiser, Yorick, Hecarim, and Lucian, with further additions scheduled through patch 26.23.

Riot Games attributed the decision to a decline in the active player base, noting that many users returned to the modern version of League of Legends. This migration caused increased matchmaking wait times and wider MMR disparities in certain regions. Consequently, the developer plans to transition the mode into a limited-time event format in the future.

On the Japanese server, online matchmaking will be disabled starting with patch 26.21, restricting play to custom games. Additionally, Riot Games will provide refunds for exclusive content such as Classic Portraits, with further details available on their support page.
