Intel is preparing to launch its own version of 3D V-Cache technology within the upcoming Core Ultra Series 4 Nova Lake desktop processors. While previous technical documentation identified this feature as bLLC, or big last-level cache, the company has reportedly selected BFC as the official brand extension for these specific models.
The Nova Lake series will continue using the Core Ultra naming convention established by the Arrow Lake generation. These processors will feature four-digit model numbers, with the BFC suffix specifically denoting the inclusion of the enlarged cache technology, distinct from the K and KF suffixes which indicate unlocked base frequency multipliers.
The primary goal of this technology is to boost gaming performance by storing critical data closer to the processor, similar to AMD's approach. While AMD utilizes a stacked L3 cache design, Intel may implement a different architecture, potentially placing a cache tile adjacent to the compute tile and extending the ringbus to facilitate communication.
Although the exact meaning of the BFC acronym remains unconfirmed by Intel, speculation suggests it could stand for terms like big fusion cache. The company has not yet provided an official marketing definition for the abbreviation.
