During a recent internal town hall, Xbox CEO Asha Sharma addressed the company's future, stressing the necessity of developing enduring new intellectual properties. According to a transcript reported by Windows Central, Sharma stated that the organization cannot survive by relying solely on past successes and must find the courage to innovate for new audiences.
The company's current strategy involves a significant focus on strengthening existing franchises to reach billion-dollar status. While Sharma advocates for new creative ventures, the studio has simultaneously undergone a major reorganization, which includes cancelling multiple projects at Obsidian and shifting that team's focus toward a Fallout title.
The restructuring efforts have impacted several other studios. Double Fine and Compulsion Games have been made independent, while the company has reportedly targeted Arkane Lyon and entered consultation talks regarding Ninja Theory following unsuccessful sale attempts.
Despite the emphasis on new IP, the only notable addition mentioned is Hideo Kojima's Physint. Observers note a disconnect between the CEO's stated goals of fostering invention and the recent series of industry cuts, leaving some staff reportedly confused by the conflicting direction of the company's current business operations.
