The Coalition announced that early access for Gears of War: E-Day begins today for Premium Edition players and Game Pass subscribers who purchased the Premium Upgrade. To celebrate the release, developers published a launch gameplay trailer featuring Metallica’s track “For Whom the Bell Tolls.”
Built from the ground up using Unreal Engine 5, the title introduces a dark origin story campaign taking place fourteen years prior to the original game. Players follow Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago as the Locust Horde emerges, supported by modernized movement options like vaulting and sliding alongside traditional cover mechanics.
The release features an evolved co-op Horde Siege mode allowing four-player squads to select specific classes such as Assault, Marksman, Medic, or Breacher. Additionally, the project includes refined 4v4 Versus PvP playlists, alongside technical targets featuring 4K resolution and up to 60 frames per second on compatible displays.
Early access opened worldwide on October 1 at 8:00 a.m. PT, with the global launch following on October 6. Platforms include Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC, and Steam, alongside cloud gaming via Game Pass Ultimate and GeForce NOW.
