Epic Games has officially announced that Fortnite is coming to Linux. This development aims to eliminate the reliance on translation layers and compatibility workarounds that Linux players have previously faced.

The release depends on the implementation of EAC Linux v2, which replaces kernel drivers with native Linux security features. This system requires specific configurations, including Secure Boot, TPM 2.0, and kernel lockdown integrity mode, to ensure game memory protection.

Epic is working with maintainers of distributions like Ubuntu, Fedora, Debian, openSUSE, and Bazzite to ensure compatibility. However, users utilizing custom kernels or unsigned third-party modules might encounter setup challenges.

Fortnite will serve as the initial test for this anti-cheat technology. Epic confirmed that Steam Deck support is currently unavailable due to missing hardware requirements, and the game will remain exclusive to the Epic Games Launcher without a set release date.
