Epic Games has reportedly delayed an unannounced Star Wars and Marvel crossover shooter. Originally slated for a March release, the project was pushed back due to slower-than-expected progress and an internal reassessment of the resources required for development.
The studio is transitioning to an "AI first" production model, encouraging developers to utilize tools like Anthropic's Claude. An internal message from a project director indicated a shift away from hand-written code, aiming for art created through full AI workflows.
CEO Tim Sweeney confirmed a "huge pivot" to retool for AI acceleration, stating the goal is to enable staff to build more content faster. While Epic communications director Jake Jones emphasized that developers remain the creative visionaries, the reported shift has left some staff members stunned.
Sweeney noted that AI integration aims to reduce the time between conceptualization and playtesting, which he believes will improve gameplay quality. This development follows Disney's 2024 investment of $1.5 billion in Epic, though the specific launch details for the crossover title remain unclear.
