Following recent Xbox layoffs and a major studio restructuring earlier in the week, Bethesda President Jill Braff has reassured Obsidian Entertainment employees that their creative identity will remain intact. According to an e-mail obtained by Aftermath, Braff described the shift as primarily administrative after Obsidian was moved into Bethesda's reporting structure.
Obsidian, which was acquired by Microsoft in 2018, lost 52 employees during the reorganization, including 43 workers at the California office and nine remote employees in the state. Despite the cuts, Feargus Urquhart and the current management will continue to manage daily operations while reporting directly to Braff.
While Bethesda Game Studios retains control of the Fallout franchise, Braff announced that Obsidian is working on a new Fallout project that builds on the two studios' long-standing collaboration, with more details promised in the coming months. Obsidian continues working on current projects such as Grounded, though there are currently no plans for a sequel to The Outer Worlds 2.
