PlayStation franchise Ape Escape is apparently preparing for a comeback after remaining dormant for a duration of 15 years, according to recent insider information.
Prominent insider NateTheHate2 has corroborated whispers originating from two distinct sources regarding the revival. Previously, the franchise appeared via a special level in Astro Bot where players transformed into Spike to catch apes. However, NateTheHate2 confirmed that Astro Bot developer Asobi is not developing this upcoming title.
Uncertainty remains regarding the development team since Sony Japan is no longer operational, leaving questions about which studio handles the project.
The prior release in the series was Ape Escape 3 on the PS2, while an installment designated as Ape Escape 4 never launched. A 20th anniversary Twitter account previously teased exciting reveals before eventually signing off a year later without any official announcements.
