2K has announced the 10th anniversary of Mafia III, which originally launched on October 7, 2016. To mark this milestone, the publisher released a significant update for the Steam version and officially launched Mafia III: Definitive Edition on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
The new console versions provide technical improvements, most notably supporting 60 FPS gameplay. While most cutscenes are rendered in real-time at 60 FPS, some pre-rendered sequences remain at 30 FPS. Additionally, the updates address visual consistency, including lighting, texture rendering, and vegetation streaming to reduce pop-in effects.
The Steam update resolves various progression blockers, such as issues in missions like "Kill Tommy Marcano" and "The End." Developers also improved NPC behavior for characters like Father James and fixed bugs involving crashes, achievement tracking, and UI consistency. However, 2K notes that existing players cannot transfer save data from PlayStation 4 or Xbox One to the new current-gen versions.
Eligible owners of the PlayStation 4 or Xbox One versions can obtain the current-gen upgrades digitally, though Xbox One physical disc owners are excluded from this offer. Limited-time discounts of 80% are currently available across PlayStation, Xbox, and Steam platforms.
