Developer ENSAPIA Tokyo announced that the online RPG Chocotto Land will officially end its service on March 29, 2027. The title, which features pixel art and supports both solo and cooperative play for up to four players, has been operational for 20 years since its pre-open phase.
The game allows players to explore the island of Chocotto Land, utilizing a job system where characters unlock new skills and advanced classes, such as Samurai or Shield Saver, through progression. The gameplay is designed for accessibility, featuring simple controls and no stamina restrictions.
The decision to terminate the service stems from the aging of the game's underlying systems. ENSAPIA Tokyo noted that while they explored various methods to replace or update the infrastructure, the internal structure had become too complex over the years to make such changes feasible, leading to the conclusion that continued operation is no longer possible.
Sales of in-game currency and certain items were halted on October 14. Players may continue using existing currency until the service ends. Following the closure, a refund process for unused currency will run until June 30, 2027. The developer is also preparing a memorial website and an application to allow players to view the game's designs after the servers go offline.
