SteelSeries has officially released the Aeon Pro, its inaugural high-end, pro-grade wireless controller designed for PC and Xbox. Currently available through the company's store, the device is priced at $259.99. Early impressions from IGN's Bo Moore describe the controller as potentially one of the best options available for these platforms.
The controller features an infinite battery system utilizing two hot-swappable, rechargeable batteries. Users can keep one battery charging in the included docking station while the other is in use, ensuring continuous wireless play. Additionally, the QuickSwitch system allows for seamless transitions between Xbox, PC, and mobile devices without needing to re-pair or reconnect cables.
Hardware specifications include Hall Effect magnetic sensors for the joysticks, which are designed to be more precise and resistant to stick drift than traditional potentiometers. The device also incorporates mechanical switches for its 16 buttons, including the d-pad, four XYAB buttons, four triggers, and four rear paddles. Users can customize these inputs via the integrated OLED display or the SteelSeries GG software.
The package includes four styles of modular thumbsticks—convex, concave, standard, and long—to suit different preferences. While the reviewer acknowledges the high cost, they suggest the investment is justified for heavy users who will benefit from the extensive feature set and build quality.
