Valve's digital storefront, Steam, reached a new peak in concurrent user activity this past Sunday. According to SteamDB, the platform recorded over 43.5 million total users, with more than 14 million of those individuals actively playing games simultaneously. This achievement marks the second time this year the service has exceeded its previous high, following a 42 million concurrent user milestone set in January.

The platform's growth has remained consistent over its 23-year history, experiencing a significant surge following the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in early 2020. Since that period, the concurrent peak has nearly doubled over the last six years, demonstrating steady expansion despite broader market challenges.

Several titles contributed to this traffic, led by Counter-Strike 2 with a 1.4 million 24-hour peak, followed by Dota 2 and PUBG: Battlegrounds. Additionally, the MMO Aion 2 reached a peak of 397,905 players following its Oct. 5 launch. Valve's unreleased title, Deadlock, also achieved an all-time high of 262,145 concurrent players after its Sept. 30 patch.

This growth persists despite rising costs for computer components like graphics cards. While console hardware sales have declined—with Circana reporting Xbox and PlayStation sales down 33% and 25% respectively through August compared to 2025—Valve continues to see increased engagement, potentially as users maintain existing hardware.
