Developer Facepunch Studio has released the Livestock update for the multiplayer open-world survival game Rust, introducing new farming mechanics that allow players to raise cattle and sheep alongside traditional base building and resource gathering.
With the new livestock system, players can enclose and feed animals to collect milk from cows and wool from sheep, both of which produce manure. These animals can also be slaughtered for meat, bones, and leather, or walked over to stables to be sold for prices that vary based on random animal genetics.
The update expands crafting and processing options by allowing milk to be consumed directly or separated into skim milk and heavy cream for recipes, while raw and rotten meat can now be processed in biofuel equipment to produce low-grade fuel.
Additionally, the island update populates the world with small animals such as rabbits, squirrels, and sea turtles, introduces stackable sandbag fortifications, and adds electrified loot rooms at various landmarks. Facepunch Studio also announced that a mysterious Halloween update is scheduled for the end of the month.
