Microsoft has officially announced the Nano Controller, a new, smaller, and more affordable addition to its gaming peripheral lineup. Designed to be more portable than standard hardware, this device is intended to serve as a versatile option for various platforms beyond traditional consoles.

The controller measures approximately 5 inches in length and weighs 3.5 ounces. Priced at $49.99, it is significantly cheaper than the standard $69.99 Xbox Series X controller. It features both standard Xbox wireless connectivity and Bluetooth, allowing for broad compatibility with devices like laptops, tablets, and smart TVs.

Microsoft is pursuing strategic partnerships to promote the device, including a holiday bundle with select Samsung TVs that features two months of Game Pass. The company is also reportedly negotiating a similar deal for new Meta Quest owners, though details remain unconfirmed.

While the Nano Controller is Microsoft's first mini-sized gamepad, the concept of portable controllers is already established by competitors like 8BitDo and CRKD. Preorders are currently open, with a general retail release scheduled for November.
