Chris Kerr, a former Senior Editor at Game Developer, has launched Vertical Slice, a new subscription-funded publication. The site aims to provide incisive, bold reporting for industry professionals, focusing on integrity and editorial independence.
The publication will feature news, long-form investigative journalism, and The Repository, an archive of pitch and design documents. Kerr intends to use the platform to amplify unionizing workers, spotlight funding initiatives, and hold industry power to account.
Vertical Slice is self-funded and will not carry advertising, though the database of design documents may accept sponsorships. Kerr has established a clear separation between these sponsorships and the site's journalistic output to maintain editorial standards.
The site is currently free to read until November 2nd. Afterward, most content will require a subscription, with pricing starting at £7.45 per month. Kerr, currently the sole staff member, plans to reinvest revenue into editorial growth and has already commissioned freelance contributions.
