Epic Games has reportedly delayed an unannounced shooter title featuring Marvel and Star Wars intellectual property. Originally slated for a March 2027 release, the project now faces an unspecified launch date following a strategic pivot toward an AI-first production model.

Internal directives have instructed staff to move away from handwritten code, with project art now expected to be generated through full AI workflows. Epic founder Tim Sweeney confirmed a company-wide pivot to retool for maximum AI acceleration, aiming to enable teams to build more content using Unreal Engine.

The shift has reportedly caused astonishment among developers, some of whom questioned the feasibility of the new requirements. Bloomberg reports that the project previously struggled to maintain its schedule due to insufficient staffing, prompting the company to leverage AI to increase development speed.

While Epic Games communications director Jake Jones stated that developers remain the creative drivers of their work, the industry remains divided on AI integration. Some developers have successfully utilized AI for complex tasks, yet other organizations, such as a major UK gaming convention, have implemented bans on games built primarily with AI tools.
