Cloud Imperium Games has officially listed its long-awaited single-player space adventure, Squadron 42, on Steam. The title is now available for users to add to their wishlists, marking a significant step forward for the project after more than a decade of development and multiple delays.
The game, which serves as the narrative campaign for Star Citizen, features a blend of space combat, first-person shooting, infiltration, and exploration. Players assume the role of a young Navy recruit caught in a galactic conflict set in the year 2945, navigating a massive military vessel alongside a central crew.
Built on the proprietary StarEngine, the production emphasizes high-budget cinematic sequences and detailed graphics. A notable feature is the inclusion of a Hollywood cast, including Mark Hamill, Gary Oldman, Gillian Anderson, Henry Cavill, Andy Serkis, and Ben Mendelsohn, whose performances were captured for both cutscenes and gameplay.
The studio maintains a release window for the second quarter of 2027, spanning from April to June. While this window was previously known, the Steam listing serves as an indicator of progress. However, given the project's history of missed dates, the developer suggests maintaining caution until a final release date is confirmed.
