German startup TimeTeller, led by CEO Angela Relógio, has introduced a saliva test kit designed to analyze an individual's circadian rhythm. Unlike some health testing ventures, Relógio, a physicist-engineer and molecular biologist, emphasizes a cautious approach regarding the current capabilities of the technology.
The company's core mission focuses on oncology, aiming to improve cancer treatment outcomes by timing medication to a patient's internal clock. Relógio notes that while the test provides data on circadian rhythms, the direct-to-consumer kit does not independently calculate optimal treatment timing, which requires clinical study contexts.
Beyond cancer, the technology has potential applications in managing metabolic and neurodegenerative diseases, as well as optimizing sleep, nutrition, and physical activity. Longevity clinics have already begun ordering these tests to provide personalized health advice to their clients.
TimeTeller has secured a partnership with Techniker Krankenkasse, a major German health insurer, to reimburse test costs for cancer patients. This collaboration is currently expanding to cover more of the insurer's 12 million members, supporting the company's broader goal of integrating temporal data into precision medicine.
