Cloud Imperium Games has unveiled a new trailer for Squadron 42, the single-player component of Star Citizen. This ambitious project, which has been in development for 12 years, depicts a desperate conflict where humanity faces defeat against hostile alien forces.
The game features a star-studded cast including Mark Hamill, Gary Oldman, Gillian Anderson, and Henry Cavill. Players take on the role of a United Empire of Earth Navy pilot, with Ian Duncan and Alix Wilton Regan providing the performances for the male and female player characters respectively.
Led by Wing Commander creator Chris Roberts, the title combines first-person action with space dogfighting. The latest footage highlights various gameplay elements, such as on-foot exploration, life aboard a capital ship, and interactive minigames alongside traditional space combat.
While Cloud Imperium Games previously labeled the campaign as feature-complete in 2023, the studio is currently refining the experience for maximum immersion. The project is now targeting a Q2 2027 release window, and it is currently available to wishlist on Steam and the developer's website.
