Dwango announced on October 13, 2026, that the Niconico application for the Nintendo Switch will cease operations on March 31, 2027. This conclusion marks the end of approximately 10 years of service, which originally launched on July 13, 2017.
Users will no longer be able to download the software from the Nintendo eShop after February 28, 2027. Following the final service date, launching the application will display a termination screen. The company confirmed there are no plans to bring the service to the successor platform, Switch 2, citing considerations regarding service deployment policies and requirements.
Despite the software's closure, user accounts and lists remain accessible. Individuals can continue to utilize their existing Niconico data through PC browsers, smartphone browsers, or the dedicated iOS and Android applications.
To commemorate the service, Dwango is launching the Thank You for Playing campaign. Eligible users will receive personalized notifications detailing their viewing history, comment activity, and interactions, alongside commemorative achievements.
