Square Enix has quietly deployed a new update for the Steam version of Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster. This release marks the first official patch for the PC port since its 2016 launch, aiming to address long-standing technical grievances reported by the community.

Players previously encountered persistent issues including game crashes and a recurring graphical error that caused the screen to turn green. Unofficial investigations suggest these malfunctions stemmed from the game being a 32-bit application, which restricted virtual memory to 2GB. This limitation frequently triggered errors during extended play sessions, high-resolution settings, or when utilizing high-speed modes.

The prevalence of these bugs grew alongside the adoption of higher-specification hardware. Steam community discussions regarding the green screen glitch surged from 60 reports between 2016 and 2020 to 330 reports thereafter. Consequently, the game's user rating on the platform declined from "Overwhelmingly Positive" to "Mostly Positive."

Although Square Enix has not released official patch notes detailing the specific fixes, early player feedback indicates that the update has successfully mitigated these long-term stability and visual problems.
