Developer One More Level, known for Ghostrunner, has released its latest title Valor Mortis today, the 14th. This game presents a dark fantasy reimagining of the Napoleonic Wars, blending historical themes with challenging soulslike combat mechanics.
Players assume the role of William, a former soldier of the Grande Armée who is resurrected from a battlefield grave. The gameplay is experienced from a first-person perspective, requiring users to harness supernatural abilities to battle grotesque monsters spawned by a mysterious plague that has corrupted 19th-century Europe.
The combat emphasizes high mobility, tasking players with dodging the plague-ridden Eternal Guard. Exploration is essential, as players must uncover environmental secrets to improve their survival odds while navigating a world transformed by the costs of endless warfare.
A Deluxe Edition is available at launch, bundling the base game with various weapon skins. This edition also includes a large story-based DLC, which the development team plans to release next year, promising to expand upon the game's suspenseful narrative and dark atmosphere.
