Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced the launch of the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition Midnight Black, a new color variant designed exclusively for the Japanese market. This model is scheduled for release on November 19, 2026, with a suggested retail price of 55,000 yen including tax.
The console retains the core performance features of the standard PlayStation 5, including its high-speed SSD, 3D audio, and support for DualSense wireless controller features like haptic feedback. However, it is restricted to users with a PlayStation account set to Japan and the Japanese language.
While the unit does not include a disc drive, Sony is simultaneously releasing a matching Midnight Black disc drive for 11,980 yen. Users can attach this peripheral to play physical game discs. Additionally, the console is eligible for a promotional two-year manufacturer warranty if purchased before March 31, 2027.
Pre-orders for both the console and the standalone disc drive will begin on October 20, 2026, at participating retailers and online stores in Japan. This launch coincides with the arrival of several anticipated titles, including Grand Theft Auto VI.
