Airship Syndicate has officially ended the Kickstarter campaign for its upcoming sci-fi horror isometric shooter, DUST: Origins. The crowdfunding effort concluded at the end of August after reaching $66,732 of its $250K goal. The studio stated that the decision to cancel was driven by the project's strong wishlisting momentum, which significantly outperformed its crowdfunding engagement.

Despite the cancellation, the developer confirms that DUST: Origins remains fully funded. The crowdfunding initiative was originally intended only to accelerate the development timeline. The studio clarified that the title is strictly a single-player experience, moving away from the multiplayer focus seen in their previous work on Wayfinder.

Mechanically, the game is described as a metroidvania rather than a roguelike. Players will explore an expanding station as they uncover new areas. Replayability is a core design pillar, with the title featuring multiple endings influenced by player choices and a structure built around new game plus.

DUST: Origins is currently slated for a PC release, though the studio notes that a console launch remains a possibility for the future. Interested players can sign up for an upcoming playtest through FirstLook to provide feedback on the current build.
