Mahalagang impormasyon
Recent reports indicate that certain budget Android smartphones are arriving with malware pre-installed directly from the factory. This discovery challenges the assumption that new, sealed devices are inherently secure, as malicious software is being integrated into the firmware before the products reach retail shelves.
Bitdefender researchers identified that the compromise occurs at the supply chain level. Affected models include specific devices from brands such as Doogee and Cubot, specifically the Doogee S200 X, Doogee Fire 3 Max, and Cubot KINGKONG X, alongside various counterfeit products. These compromised units typically utilize MediaTek chipsets.
The malware operates covertly by loading invisible background advertisements to generate illegal revenue. Furthermore, the software can transform infected devices into residential proxies, enabling them to participate in external cyberattacks like DDoS without the user's knowledge.
This issue has impacted tens of thousands of users across 150 countries. Because the malicious code is embedded within the firmware, standard uninstallation methods are ineffective, requiring complex technical intervention to remove. Consumers are advised to exercise caution and prioritize reputable brands when purchasing new hardware.
