Epic Games has officially announced plans to bring Fortnite to Linux by rebuilding its Easy Anti-Cheat software. This initiative aims to address long-standing concerns regarding the security of various kernel configurations, which previously prevented the battle royale from launching on the platform.
The new solution, titled EAC Linux v2, moves away from the kernel-level drivers used on Windows. Instead, it utilizes native Linux security features such as measured boot, IOMMU support, kernel lockdown LSM, and eBPF logic to maintain game integrity and detect cheating tools.
Implementation of this system requires specific security configurations that may not be present on every Linux distribution. Epic notes that users attempting to launch protected games without meeting these requirements will receive an error message rather than facing account bans or other penalties.
Despite these advancements, Epic confirmed that EAC Linux v2 is currently incompatible with the Steam Deck due to missing required features. The company is in active discussions with Valve to potentially enable support in the future, though no timeline was provided for this integration.
