Mahalagang impormasyon
Former Rockstar Vice President Dan Houser recently discussed how the September 11, 2001, terror attacks necessitated last-minute changes to Grand Theft Auto 3. The tragedy forced the studio to abandon its original box art, which featured burning buildings deemed too offensive for release at the time.
To replace the original design, artist Stephen Bliss created the now-iconic panelled cover art in approximately two evenings. Beyond the packaging, the development team adjusted in-game content to remain sensitive to the climate in Liberty City, a fictionalized version of New York City.
Houser previously noted in a 2011 interview that specific modifications included altering police car colors to avoid direct resemblance to the NYPD, changing flight paths to prevent planes from appearing to strike skyscrapers, and removing a mission referencing terrorists.
These adjustments caused a slight delay, pushing the release date from October 3, 2001, to October 22. Despite the pressure and initial lack of interest at E3, the title became a landmark success, maintaining steady sales through early 2002.
