The second OSAKA INDIE GAMES SUMMIT 2026, organized by Phoenixx, took place on October 3 and 4, 2026, at Congress Square Grand Green Osaka. Despite initial expectations from 4Gamer and industry veteran Shuhei Yoshida that the event might lack new content following other major showcases, the exhibition featured a significant number of previously unfeatured titles.
The event highlighted a wide array of creative and unconventional gameplay mechanics. Notable titles mentioned include games where abilities are lost upon completion, experiences involving perpetual loading screens, and unique concepts such as flying cows at 1000 km/h, evolving udon, and excavation via guitar. The selection ranged from Japanese-style eccentric titles to hand-drawn 3D games and sleep-inducing adventure games.
Shuhei Yoshida, former president of SIE Worldwide Studios, noted that he had underestimated the volume of new content at the summit. Beyond game recommendations, discussions touched upon serious industry topics, including the power dynamics between indie creators and publishers, the challenges of sustaining indie labels, and the difficulties creators face when attempting to produce a second title.
The summit underscored the strength of the Kansai indie community, with organizers suggesting that regional events do not necessarily compete with one another. The event provided a platform for diverse titles, including action-oriented games like Magic Potion Liberators and rhythm-based experiences, offering attendees a broad look at the current indie landscape.
