Riot Games has officially announced that the Classic Mode for League of Legends, which launched this July, will conclude its current operations in January 2027. While the mode will be archived, the developer expressed intentions to potentially bring it back in the future as a limited-time event featuring adjustments and additional content.

The decision follows observations that the mode currently lacks sufficient long-term player retention. Although many players enjoyed revisiting the game's early aesthetic through the 26.15 version update, the majority have since returned to other standard modes within the client.

To address issues regarding long queue times and matchmaking imbalances in specific regions, Riot Games is implementing limited-time queue windows. These schedules vary by region, with specific hours set for weekdays and weekends across servers including Taiwan, Korea, Southeast Asia, Latin America, Turkey, and Oceania.

Despite the upcoming closure, the development team remains committed to supporting the mode until its end. Riot Games confirmed that they will continue to release new champions for the Classic Mode in every version update leading up to the 26.23 patch.

Specific details regarding a potential return date or future development plans remain unannounced. The company stated that they intend to share further insights gained from this operational period at a later time.
