Bumper Bout, a competitive two-player pinball game, recently debuted at PAX Australia. The title was featured as the final game of the event's Omegathon tournament, created by a developer who sought to introduce stakes to the traditional pinball experience.
The gameplay involves managing a pinball table while simultaneously sending attack balls to an opponent's side. Players lose a heart each time a ball enters the ballhole, with the first to lose five hearts losing the round. Scoring points allows players to accumulate attack balls or unlock character-specific ultimate abilities, such as gravity wells or bombs.
PC Gamer reviewer noted that the game successfully maintains focus despite the chaotic environment of a busy show floor. The title features varied playfields, including a space-themed level with moving satellites and a foosball-inspired table where flippers interact with player standees.
Beyond the local competitive mode, the final release will include singleplayer arcade and survival modes, alongside online multiplayer functionality. A demo is currently available on Steam, with the full game scheduled for release on October 29.
