During the Minecraft Live event, Mojang unveiled The Sift, marking the game's first new dimension in nearly 15 years. The announcement arrives alongside the milestone that Minecraft has surpassed 425 million copies sold globally.
In an official blog post, The Sift is described as vibrant, beautiful, and full of souls. It will become the game's fourth dimension, joining the Overworld, Nether, and The End. Early regions in the dimension have been named Meadow and Carapace.
The Sift will first appear next week via rifts in the recently interconnected world of Minecraft Dungeons 2. A release for Minecraft's Bedrock and Java editions is scheduled for next year.
Minecraft Live also detailed an upcoming base game update introducing an ice biome, ice caves, calcite blocks, ice crystals, and icicles, noting that icicles grow naturally from ceilings while ground ice crystals emit a soft light. Additionally, it was confirmed that Minecraft will launch on the Nintendo Switch 2 on October 27.
