A new mod titled Incursion, created by game designer Tom Whaley, allows players to customize their squad in Gears of War: E-Day with various character skins. The mod enables users to equip models inspired by Halo Spartans, Warhammer 40,000 Space Marines, and Star Wars Clone Troopers, alongside additional in-universe Gears options.

The mod introduces a dedicated skin selector accessible via the main menu or the in-game pause menu. This implementation streamlines the customization process, allowing players to switch between different character appearances without the need to manually swap files or perform multiple installations.

To utilize the Incursion mod, players must own a copy of Gears of War: E-Day. Installation instructions are currently hosted on the Nexus Mods platform. The base game itself has faced scrutiny regarding its launch features, as developers built the title from scratch, resulting in the absence of mechanics like chainsaw duels and meat shields.

Market analysis from Rhys Elliott of Alinea Analytics suggested the game experienced a soft start with approximately 230,000 estimated sales in its first week. These figures remain unofficial and are not supported by Microsoft data, with the report speculating that the Xbox Game Pass subscription service may have impacted individual unit sales.
