Easy Fox, the studio behind the free Steam demo Teach My Little Sister How To Drive, has secured a bank loan to maintain operations after daily AI service costs exceeded $1,000. The game utilizes voice recognition powered by Google Gemini, with ChatGPT serving as a secondary fallback system.
The financial strain stems from a significant surge in player engagement. SteamDB data indicates that the title's peak concurrent player count reached 431 on Oct. 1, a substantial increase from the fewer than 10 players recorded prior to late August.
The reliance on external AI services has introduced technical challenges. High traffic caused the game to hit usage limits on Google Gemini, forcing a transition to the less capable ChatGPT Realtime Mini 2.1. Developers noted this shift resulted in delayed responses and incorrect inputs, negatively impacting the user experience.
To mitigate these issues, the team is exploring local AI models for users with sufficient hardware. While the current demo is free, the developers intend to incorporate anticipated AI usage costs into the final retail price, ensuring players are not charged separately for individual token consumption after purchase.
