The British game developer Ninja Theory has reportedly initiated layoffs following its inclusion in a massive Xbox restructuring plan, according to details shared by affected staff members on LinkedIn and cited by GamesIndustry.biz.
Established in 2000 in Cambridge and formerly known as Just Add Monsters, the studio was acquired by Microsoft in 2018. The team worked on multiplayer action titles and concentrated on the Hellblade series, launching its latest entry, Senua, in June.
Management attempted to negotiate independent operation with Microsoft after the studio faced closure in July. However, Xbox content head Matt Booty confirmed in a September internal memo that two separate independence agreements collapsed.
The collapse resulted in consultation with employees regarding shutdown procedures while alternative pathways are explored. Numerous roles were affected, including senior programmers, technical directors, motion capture specialists, and technical sound designers.
