Key information
On the 5th, Japanese idol group King & Prince member Kaito Takahashi debuted as a solo singer using the name KAITO. The social media hashtag #KAITO matched the name of the 20-year-old Vocaloid voice bank character KAITO, causing search results to intermix and provoking friction between fan communities.
Naoto Fuuga, the voice provider for the Vocaloid character, posted on X on the 5th that searching for KAITO had suddenly become difficult, expressing mild concern. Vocaloid fans argued that overlapping tags hinder community communication because the virtual character relies heavily on independent creator promotion, unlike human idols.
Takahashi fans defended the use of KAITO as a romanization of his given name and noted he used capital letters during his childhood dancer era in 2008. Some participants suggested adding #高橋海人 to posts, while others muted the tag. Crypton Future Media stated on October 5th that completely preventing hashtag overlap is systematically difficult.
Legally, trademark rights held by Crypton Future Media through 2035 do not extend to strings or hashtags, meaning Takahashi's activities do not constitute trademark infringement unless promotional visuals mislead consumers. Public perception nevertheless remains sharply divided.
