Key information
LA-based developer Studio Lifeforms has unveiled Etre, a narrative-driven action adventure game. Players control a character named Xyle who explores Orbis, a sentient cityscape described as a planet-scale alien mind currently on the brink of awakening, while searching for his soulmate Atel.
The game features a distinctive visual aesthetic inspired by graphic novels from the '70s and '80s. While the developer notes similarities to the visual styles of Rez and Tetris Effect, the gameplay mechanics draw direct inspiration from Remedy's Control, utilizing a semi-open world structure and a movement-based combat system against environmental anomalies and living geometry.
PC Gamer reviewer assessments highlight the game's striking visuals but express concern regarding the combat. The reviewer noted that the combat clips currently available on the Steam page appear somewhat flat, suggesting that the title will require more tactile satisfaction to match the quality of its influences.
Studio Lifeforms has not yet provided an official release date for the project. However, it is currently expected to arrive sometime next year.
