Key information
Yen Press recently released the first volume of the manga Clevatess: The King of Dark Beasts, the Baby, and the Undead Hero. Although the anime adaptation preceded the English manga release in late August 2026, the original work by Yuji Iwahara is described as being well worth the wait due to its pacing and storytelling.
The narrative follows a dark beast named Clevatess who acts as the protagonist. After human heroes attack his territory, Clevatess retaliates by targeting the King of Hiden. During this conflict, he encounters a baby and an undead hero named Alicia, which shifts his perspective on humanity.
The manga explores dark humor as Clevatess attempts to raise the infant, struggling with human concepts like clothing and growth rates. Iwahara’s writing portrays the beast as a logical character despite his inhuman nature, effectively balancing dramatic and humorous tones better than the anime adaptation.
Alicia plays a pivotal role in the story, influencing the development of Clevatess and his Klen form. The first volume is currently available, with the second volume scheduled for release by Yen Press on November 24, 2026.
