Key information
Supermassive Games, known for Directive 8020 and Until Dawn, has reportedly lost more than 70 staff members during widespread layoffs. Former IT and facilities director Frank Tindle shared his departure on LinkedIn, noting that over 70 brilliant individuals including developers, artists, and producers are leaving the company.
The studio previously stated in August that it initiated a redundancy consultation process expected to remove up to 75 colleagues to guarantee the company's sustainability. Previously in July 2025, Supermassive also announced up to 36 employee job cuts to adjust team structures, which delayed Directive 8020 before its release this May.
The newly released sci-fi horror title Directive 8020 proved divisive among players. Reviewers and fans were torn between praising a stellar cast of characters and criticizing grating stealth gameplay elements.
Despite these ongoing structural difficulties and recent departures, the studio continues producing narrative-driven titles for dedicated fans, while former staff members seek new opportunities across the industry.
