Russian independent game developer GameFirst has announced that its ecological simulation strategy game Save the Earth will transition from a free-to-play model to a one-time paid buy-to-own game on Steam. The title, which supports Traditional Chinese and pays homage to Plague Inc., has accumulated overwhelmingly positive reviews since its launch in 2023.

The transition will take place at least one week after the official announcement, with the exact date to be announced later. Players who claim and add the game to their Steam library before the conversion will not need to repurchase it once it becomes paid.

Alongside the shift to a paid model, Save the Earth will receive a major update featuring remastered visual effects, a redesigned scene selection screen, a built-in music player, and new scenarios currently in development.

In the game, players act as an environmental foundation tasked with studying global ecological conditions, analyzing regional problems, and formulating action plans. The gameplay requires players to track real-time environmental changes, push green technologies, handle issues like poaching and natural disasters, and deploy volunteers.

Combining educational and simulation elements, the title addresses real-world environmental issues such as marine pollution, water quality, and climate change, allowing players to observe the consequences of different ecological policies.
