Key information
Cloud Imperium Games has officially opened Steam wishlisting for Squadron 42, the standalone single-player campaign set within the Star Citizen universe. The developer announced this update on 10th October, accompanied by a fresh trailer for the title.
The narrative takes place in 2945, casting players as a rookie in the UEE Navy during a period of galactic instability. Gameplay features a blend of space combat, ground-based missions, and stealth sequences, alongside interactive moments with crewmates that involve player-driven decisions.
The project utilizes the proprietary StarEngine technology and boasts a notable cast featuring Mark Hamill, Gary Oldman, and Henry Cavill. These performances were captured using full performance capture techniques to bring the characters to life.
Development has spanned over a decade, with the release window shifting multiple times. The current target is Q2 2027, a date studio head Chris Roberts selected to avoid competition with the launch of GTA 6.
