Cloud Imperium Games has unveiled a new official trailer for Squadron 42, the ambitious story-driven campaign mode for Star Citizen. The footage highlights both cinematic sequences and gameplay elements, including ship customization menus, aiming to build excitement despite previous development delays.
The project features a notable Hollywood cast, including Gary Oldman as Admiral Ernst Bishop, Mark Hamill as Lieutenant Commander Steve 'Old Man' Colton, and Henry Cavill as Ryan Enright. Other performers include Mark Strong, Gillian Anderson, and Andy Serkis.
According to the latest update, the title is scheduled for release during the second quarter of 2027, specifically between April and June. Developers reportedly delayed the launch to avoid direct competition with GTA 6, though this timeline remains subject to potential future setbacks.
The game is currently listed on Steam. Additionally, Cloud Imperium Games has provided a select group of content creators with early access to test the campaign, following a live gameplay demonstration presented at CitizenCon 2954 in 2024.
