Key information
Sony is reportedly planning to revitalize several dormant PlayStation franchises by collaborating with independent third-party studios. The first project in this initiative is allegedly a new entry in the Ape Escape series.
According to Jeff Gerstmann, the development of this title is being handled by Evening Star, the studio known for Sonic Mania and Penny's Big Breakaway. VGC has corroborated these claims regarding the external team's involvement.
While the game is reportedly in development, Gerstmann noted that it does not appear to be nearing completion. The project follows a strategy similar to the 2025 release of Everybody's Golf: Hot Shots, which was developed by Bandai Namco.
Beyond Ape Escape, Sony is exploring further revivals of its legacy intellectual properties. Speculation has also linked other studios to potential projects, such as rumors involving People Can Fly and the Killzone franchise.
