Key information
SILENT HILL: Townfall introduces a first-person perspective, marking the first time a mainline SILENT HILL title places the core horror entirely through the protagonist's eyes, following previous entries like Silent Hill 4: The Room on PS2 in 2004 and Silent Hill: The Short Message on PS5 in 2024.
Players experience the game through protagonist Simon O'Dell's perspective, utilizing a 2.35:1 aspect ratio that creates a cinematic presentation while limiting visibility. To track enemies, the game uses a portable CRTV device that visualizes nearby threat locations when tuned, while the DualSense controller provides haptic feedback when new enemies appear nearby.
Survival requires close-quarters melee defense, stealth mechanics like crouching behind vehicles or using motion controls to aim firearms and throwables by tilting the DualSense controller. Players can also hide inside wardrobes, lockers, and closets, though enemies can catch them and drag them out if spotted.
The first-person viewpoint heightens puzzle immersion and internal psychological depth, displaying Simon's inner monologues as sentences on screen rather than spoken dialogue. SILENT HILL: Townfall is scheduled for release on PlayStation 5 on September 24.
