Key information

Official announcements confirm that the latest entry in the Gundam SEED franchise, titled Mobile Suit Gundam SEED FREEDOM ZERO, is scheduled for a Japanese theatrical release in January 2027. The production team unveiled promotional videos, character designs, and mobile suit details during the GUNDAM Showcase 2026 @ NYC event held at the 2026 New York Comic Con.

Serving as a prequel to Mobile Suit Gundam SEED FREEDOM, the narrative focuses on Shinn Asuka. The plot is set in C.E.74, following the collapse of the Destiny Plan. As the Orb Union works to establish the Compass peace monitoring organization, Shinn finds himself struggling to determine his path. The conflict ignites when the Strike Freedom Gundam is stolen from a Compass base, forcing Shinn and his allies back into combat.

The screenplay for this prequel was developed by Chiaki Morosawa, Shigeru Morita, and director Mitsuo Fukuda during the production of the previous film. By centering the story on Shinn Asuka, the creators aim to explore the period immediately following the major war, detailing the efforts to maintain a new global order.

Following the initial Japanese premiere in January 2027, the film is slated for a North American release in February 2027. Information regarding release dates for other international regions remains pending, with the studio expected to provide further updates as the launch window approaches.
