Supermassive Games has implemented its second major layoff round, reducing staff by more than 70 employees across multiple disciplines at the Guildford-based studio. Former employee Frank Tindle stated on LinkedIn that developers, artists, producers, quality assurance, and operations personnel were affected.

The latest cuts follow a redundancy consultation and planned reductions announced by the studio in August, intended to secure long-term sustainability. This event marks another substantial reduction following the elimination of more than 30 roles in July 2025.

Video Games Chronicle reported that previous 2025 reductions caused delays for Directive 8020, which launched earlier in 2026. The latest title received middling critical and player reviews, while future Dark Pictures projects currently have no confirmed details regarding the impact.

Leadership changes preceded the job losses as CEO Robert Henrysson stepped down in June 2026 to focus on personal investments and family time.
