Key information
A recent issue of Weekly Famitsu magazine features special coverage celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Sakura Wars series, including interviews with several Japanese creators involved in the franchise.
Original creator Hiroi Oji discussed how a concept plot for a direct sequel titled Sakura Wars 6 existed. He noted that the plot features a character named Black Swan placed into a cold sleep, though he stated he will only think about it further when officially told to create a prototype with a development team.
Regarding material limitations and future concepts, Hiroi Oji mentioned that advanced games could potentially allow players to become NPCs who simply watch battles, enabled by increased capacity and AI for infinite voiceless lines, contrasting with older programming restrictions that turned many role-playing games into errand tasks.
Regarding availability, Sega's Akira Nishino and Takaharu Terada expressed a desire to make the first through fifth games playable on current platforms, though Nishino noted that various circumstances prevent progress from being smooth. Terada apologized that players currently must buy older consoles to play past titles.
