Key information

Nintendo Switch Sports Resort is an upcoming family-friendly party game exclusive to the Nintendo Switch 2, scheduled for release on October 22. Described as an extension of Nintendo Switch Sports, the new title features a larger scope, more mini-games, and an island to explore.

During a hands-on preview session, players tested various activities, including a 5-minute airplane ride controlled by holding a joy-con like a paper airplane and pivoting the wrist. Similar cooperative exploration events, such as skateboarding, yield coins used as currency to purchase cosmetics and other items.

New sports featured in Resort include table tennis, which relies on wrist flexion and orientation for angles, and archery, which requires a complete pair of joy-cons to aim and draw the string. Boxing also returns with improved motion gaming compared to the Wii era, alongside a thumb-wrestling mini-game.

The title includes a solo mode across all event types, where registered profiles climb a leaderboard against increasingly difficult AI opponents. While free-roam island excursions can become repetitive, the new sports and unlocking systems provide solid reasons to keep playing.
