Key information
The PlayStation Family app allows parents to manage their children's gaming environments directly from a smartphone. This tool provides a centralized way to oversee play time, spending, and communication settings, addressing common parental concerns regarding online safety and gaming habits.
The application enables granular control over various features. Parents can set limits on playtime, including daily adjustments and weekly schedules, and manage monthly spending limits for the PlayStation Store. Additionally, the app allows for the restriction of voice chat, messaging, and access to content created by other players.
To begin, parents must create individual PlayStation accounts for each child, each requiring a unique email address. Once the family group is established, the parent acts as the family manager. The app also supports real-time notifications, allowing parents to approve or deny requests for playtime extensions or access to restricted games while away from the console.
PlayStation recommends that parents set up dedicated child accounts immediately to ensure progress and trophies are tracked correctly. Furthermore, the company advises setting a four-digit login passcode on PS5 or PS4 consoles and disabling guest logins to prevent children from accessing unrestricted accounts.
