Key information
Recent reports indicate that NVIDIA might be planning to discontinue the GeForce RTX 5090 and its RTX 5090D variant. According to information cited by Wccftech, leaked supplier communications suggest that the production of these consumer-grade graphics cards could cease entirely.
The GB202 chips previously allocated for the RTX 5090 are reportedly being redirected exclusively to the RTX PRO workstation series. These professional cards, such as the RTX PRO 6000, 5500, and 5000, feature significantly higher memory capacities ranging from 48 GB to 96 GB of GDDR7, making them better suited for large-scale AI training tasks.
Financial incentives appear to drive this potential shift, as professional cards command much higher profit margins. While the RTX 5090 is priced around US$ 1,999, the RTX PRO 6000 can reach prices exceeding US$ 16,000. To address the resulting gap in the gaming market, NVIDIA may introduce a 24 GB version of the RTX 5080, with estimated prices between US$ 2,000 and US$ 2,500.
The timeline for these adjustments remains unconfirmed. Industry observers suggest that any official announcement from NVIDIA could potentially occur by the end of this month or during CES 2027.
